Pleated Filter
A Great Start!
We think pleated filters are great if your system can handle it-see the caution in red below. If you like pleated filters, you might be interested in high capacity filters. It is a pleated filter that is 4" wide and can last a homeowner 6 months to a year.
Pleated filters can remove particles and large biologicals (pollen, mold spores, etc) from the air that passes through the air ducts. The general "rule of thumb" is that the filter media from which a filter is made (its effective "MERV rating") determines down to what size particles that filter can capture based upon how close the filter fibers in the media are spaced. For any given media type, the depth (thickness) of the filter and the number of pleats per inch across the filter, determine how long the filter will perform before it should be replaced. As the depth and number of pleats increase, the surface area of the filter increases and thus the longer it will last.
CAUTION:
Is this filter too restrictive for your ductwork? We place a great emphasis on pressure drop requirements. Excessive pressure drop through the filter can result in poor system performance (bad air flow, high electric bills) and possible failure (filter collapsing or it causes the unit to freeze up and get water everywhere). We can check the static pressures of your ductwork to see if the ductwork can handle the restricted air flow. Sometimes we can modify the ductwork and eliminate these risks. Contact us.
